GeM Catalogue Listing
Buyers search the catalogue, not the seller list. A registration without a proper catalogue is a shop with the shutters down.
Why most catalogues never get seen
A government buyer on GeM does not browse suppliers. They search for a product against a category and a set of specifications, then compare what comes back. Everything about whether you appear in that comparison is decided by how you listed.
Three things decide it. The category you list under — the right product in the wrong category is invisible to the buyer looking for it. The specifications you fill in — incomplete ones get filtered out the moment a buyer narrows a search. And the completeness of the listing, because sparse entries lose to detailed ones even at the same price.
This is unglamorous work, and it is the whole difference between a GeM registration that produces orders and one that produces nothing.
What to get right
- Category first. Spend time here. Listing in a category buyers do not search for your product in wastes everything that follows.
- Fill every specification field. Buyers filter on these. A blank field silently excludes you from that filter.
- Match the specification language buyers use, not your internal product names.
- Keep prices and stock current. Stale listings damage your standing when you cannot fulfil.
- Upload proper images and documents, including certificates and test reports where the category expects them.
- Review after a few weeks. If nothing is coming through, the category or the specifications are usually why.
