MP PWD Electrical Contractor Registration

Electrical registration is not civil registration with a different tick box. It has its own eligibility, and it usually sits on top of a licence you need first.

The licence comes before the registration

The most common mistake here is sequencing. Electrical contracting in Madhya Pradesh generally requires an electrical contractor licence from the licensing authority, held by the firm and supported by a supervisor with the appropriate certificate of competency. The PWD registration sits on top of that — it is not a substitute for it.

Contractors who apply for PWD electrical registration without the licence in place find the application stops. Working backwards from a rejection costs months, because the licence itself takes time.

If you hold a civil registration and want to add electrical, that is not an amendment — it is a separate registration with its own requirements. Some contractors hold both, and that is worth planning as two applications rather than one.

What the application typically needs

  • Electrical contractor licence, current and in the firm's name
  • Supervisor with a certificate of competency, employed by you with proof
  • Completion certificates for electrical work of the relevant nature and value — civil work does not substitute
  • Tools, testing equipment and machinery appropriate to electrical work, with ownership documents
  • Solvency certificate and audited accounts, as with civil registration
  • Firm registration, PAN, GST, consistent across every document

Where electrical contractors get stuck

Two places, consistently. The first is the supervisor — the certificate of competency has to be genuine and the person has to actually be employed by you. Departments verify this, and arrangements that exist only on paper get found.

The second is completion certificates for electrical work specifically. A contractor with years of civil experience and a couple of small electrical jobs will be graded on the electrical evidence, not the civil. That is often lower than expected, and it is the reason to start collecting certificates for electrical work now.

Common questions

Not as an amendment. It is a separate registration with its own licence requirement, its own evidence and its own class. Many contractors hold both, but they applied twice.

The supervisor needs to be genuinely employed by you, with proof. Shared or nominal arrangements are exactly what verification is looking for.

Those are separate registrations with the distribution companies. See our page on the DSC for MPPKVVCL and MPEB, and talk to us about the registrations themselves.

Longer than the PWD registration, which is why it needs starting first. Tell us where you are and we will map the sequence.

Send us your case

Tell us whether you already hold an electrical contractor licence and a supervisor. Those two answers decide whether this is a short job or a long one.
