DSC for Corporate Net Banking
Some banks require a digital signature to authorise corporate transactions online. The certificate is personal, and so is the authority it carries.
What the bank is actually asking for
Banks that use digital signatures for corporate net banking are doing it for one reason: to be certain that a payment instruction came from the person authorised to give it. The certificate is issued in an individual's name and it is that individual's signature, legally.
That has a consequence worth stating plainly. Whatever is authorised with your token is authorised by you. Handing the token and PIN to an accounts assistant so they can process payments is handing them your signing authority over the company's money. If something goes wrong, the record shows you signed it.
Each authorised signatory needs their own certificate. This is not a case where one certificate serves the office.
How it works and how fast
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Tell us the portal | We confirm individual or organisation, and whether encryption is needed |
| 2. Documents | PAN, Aadhaar, photo, email and mobile; organisation certificates also need entity proof and an authorisation letter |
| 3. Video KYC | A two-minute recorded verification, required by the certifying authority |
| 4. Issue | Usually the same day, often within about two hours |
| 5. Token | Loaded onto a USB crypto token, collected in Bhopal or couriered |
A Class 3 certificate is not tied to one portal. Registering it against each portal you use is a separate step, but you buy the certificate once.
What goes wrong
- Certificate name not matching the bank's records. The bank matches it against the authorised signatory it has on file. Sort out any name inconsistency first.
- One certificate shared between signatories. Covered above — it defeats the entire purpose and carries real risk.
- Expiry noticed at a payment deadline. Banking is not something you want blocked. Check validity and renew ahead.
- Signatory changes not updated at the bank. A departed employee whose certificate is still mapped is an open door.
