DSC for Medical and Drug Licences
Drug and medical licence applications are filed and signed online. The certificate has to be in the name of the person the licence will be held by.
Who signs matters more than usual here
A drug licence attaches to a specific business and, for many categories, to a qualified person — a registered pharmacist or competent person whose qualification supports the licence. The application is signed by the authorised person for the applicant business.
Getting the certificate in the wrong name is a real setback here, because the licensing authority checks the applicant's identity against the licence being applied for. A certificate in a partner's personal name when the firm is the applicant, or the reverse, means reissuing before you can proceed.
Decide who signs on behalf of the business before buying, and make sure that person's name is consistent across PAN, the firm's registration and the licence application.
How it works and how fast
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Tell us the portal | We confirm individual or organisation, and whether encryption is needed |
| 2. Documents | PAN, Aadhaar, photo, email and mobile; organisation certificates also need entity proof and an authorisation letter |
| 3. Video KYC | A two-minute recorded verification, required by the certifying authority |
| 4. Issue | Usually the same day, often within about two hours |
| 5. Token | Loaded onto a USB crypto token, collected in Bhopal or couriered |
A Class 3 certificate is not tied to one portal. Registering it against each portal you use is a separate step, but you buy the certificate once.
What goes wrong
- Certificate in the wrong name for the applicant entity. Proprietorship, partnership and company each imply a different answer.
- Certificate expiring during a long application. Licensing processes run for weeks; a one-year certificate bought at the start can lapse before renewal time.
- Renewal caught out. Licences renew periodically and each renewal needs a valid certificate. Diary both dates together.
- Assuming we do the licence. We handle the certificate and documentation. The pharmacy and technical side of a drug licence sits with your own qualified person, and we will say so rather than take on what we should not.
