DSC for Udyam and Scheme Portals
Some scheme applications are signed and some are not. Buying a certificate you do not need is a common way to overpay for a free registration.
Start by checking whether you need one
Udyam registration itself is free and, for most applicants, does not require a digital signature — it works on Aadhaar-based verification. People are sold certificates for it anyway.
Where a certificate genuinely comes in is the layer above: subsidy applications, scheme portals, state incentive claims, and procurement systems that ask for signed submissions.
So the honest first answer is often that you do not need one yet. We would rather say that than sell you a certificate for a free registration.
Where it usually is needed
- State subsidy and incentive claims, which are often signed submissions with supporting documents
- Procurement portals where the MSME status is used to claim a preference
- Scheme applications with financial attachments, particularly capital subsidy claims
- Anything involving a tender, where encryption is usually needed too

Two things to check before buying anything
First, read what the scheme actually asks for. Scheme guidelines say whether a signed submission is required, and they are usually a PDF on the department’s own site. If the guideline does not mention a digital signature and the portal accepts an OTP-based verification, you do not need one.
Second, check whether the certificate has to be in the entity’s name. Subsidy claims are usually made by the business, not the person, and an individual certificate can be rejected at the point where the claim is signed. That is the more expensive mistake of the two, because it is discovered after the application is prepared.
If a scheme deadline is close and you are unsure, send us the guideline document rather than the portal screenshot. The guideline is where the answer is written down.
