When Your DSC Expires
On the day after it expires, everything you sign with it stops. There is no grace period and no way to extend it.
What actually stops
Not gradually. A certificate is valid until a date and then it is not, and every portal that checks it refuses the signature from that moment.
If you file GST monthly, that stops. If you are mid-way through a tender, the submission stops. If you run an MP Online kiosk, the kiosk stops. The certificate is usually invisible until the day it is the only thing standing between you and a deadline.
Renewal is really a fresh certificate
- An expired certificate cannot be extended. A new one is issued, with fresh video KYC.
- The new certificate has to be registered again on every portal you use. Portals map to a certificate, not to you.
- Same-day issue is normal, but it needs you available for the verification.
- Nothing signed earlier is affected. Documents signed while the certificate was valid stay valid.

The only real fix is a calendar entry
Check the expiry today and put it in the same place as your filing deadlines, with a reminder a month before. See our page on checking validity.
And buy longer validity next time. Two or three years costs less per year and removes an expiry event from your life entirely.
